| The National Council for Women (NCW) was established by Presidential Decree No. 90 in the year 2000 as an independent institution under the Presidency of the Republic. Presiding over the council is Her Excellency Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt. NCWs mandate aims to enhance the productivity of Egyptian women in all fields. The first responsibility assigned by NCWs mandate proposes: Public policy matters for society and its constitutional institutions on the development and the empowerment of women to enable them to play their social and economic role and to integrate their efforts in comprehensive development programs.
To realize the mandate in line with the economic empowerment of women, NCW implements a number of development projects, one of which is The Women Business Development Center (WBDC), a joint project between the National Council for Women and US Agency for International Development (USAID). The center is tailored for Egyptian women with the aim of creating and improving small enterprise performance in Egypt and to develop the skills of those seeking employment as a means of achieving higher economic growth.
One of the mandates of the WBDC is to provide curriculum development assistance and capacity building support for female university graduates and women entrepreneurs of SMEs in the private sector. In keeping with that mandate, the WBDC provides its clients with a number of training
sessions, workshops, seminars as well as group and individual counseling sessions. The Center also includes a Business Information Center.
