The training department provided a special training in "Geographic Information System (GIS)" for the representatives of the National Council for Women in the governorates. This training is considered the first step that laid the foundation for a new GIS that is underway to determine the Status of Egyptian Women and SMEs in Egypt. To date 57 women form different governorates have been trained on phase 1 of the GIS, and 41 of this number have been trained on phase 2.
To apply this, the Center has conducted an assessment of 8 governorates for the purpose of identifying 2 governorates from 8 ones (5 Upper Egypt Governorates and 3 North Egypt Governorates) that would become the models whereby WBDC will implement its GIS studies and would become prototypes for the services of WBDC.
The study focused on the preliminary presentation and analysis of the potentiality of SMEs in these governorates, the supporting bodies for SME business, the existing SMEs and type of their activities with emphasis on gender issues, the number of workers in SMEs, the government and governorate resources supporting SMEs, and the opportunities of women in the labor force development
Two governorates were recommended for a detailed assessment of SME; namely Dakahlia and Menia using the GIS.
